RESPONDING TO HATE AND EXTREMISM

Hate crime is an escalating problem within the UK, affecting people of all ages and from all backgrounds. Research conducted by the Centre for Hate Studies has shown that hate crime and online harassment causes significant emotional and physical damage to the wellbeing of victims, and spreads fear and concern within wider communities.

 

Over a two-year period the Leicester Hate Crime Project team conducted groundbreaking research into acts of hate, prejudice and targeted hostility. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, this research – Britain’s biggest ever study of hate crime victimisation – uncovered new insights into the nature and forms of these acts and their impact upon victims, families and wider communities.

 

Working closly with UOL and using the data and research the OCB Media team have developed a suite of digital training modules that will equip practitioners with the knowledge to develop sustainable responses to hate and extremism.

 

The modules address a range of key themes which pose particular challenges for communities across the country and for professionals working within a range of sectors, including criminal justice, education, health and social care
